Marineland offers an overview of its projects within a brand new educational space, launched in 2022.
For many years, Marineland and its Association have been involved, amongst other things, in the conservation of marine turtles through the ObstortueMed programme. In 2017, Marineland inaugurated the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre (CRFS), which specialises in taking in sea turtles that have become stranded or found in difficulty off the coast of the Var and Alpes-Maritimes. This unique place in the region is unfortunately not accessible to the public. The facility is hosted by the Espace Mer et Littoral of the city of Antibes Juan-les-Pins.
Since the CRFS is not open to the public, we had the idea of recreating a mock hospital for Sea Turtles (in soft-toy format) within Marineland's new educational space. This is an area specially designed for schools and is located near the entrance to the veterinary centre and the 5D Adventure Cinema at the Orca Fjord.
The little ones can put themselves in the shoes of a veterinarian at the bedside of injured turtles or of a volunteer from the Marineland Association who comes every day to feed or take care of a turtle. This "hospital" contains the necessary equipment for the reception, the care and the follow-up of the turtles in convalescence (stretchers, transport box, scales, X-rays, blood tests, etc.). You will be able to discover all the key stages of a successful rescue, managed by professionals from the park and Association volunteers, from the discovery of the injured or stranded turtle to its return to the sea, including examinations and medical care.
Other very concrete Research and Conservation projects are presented, such as the scientific Clean & Collect programme.
This modular space can respond to specific requests for assistance such as the training workshop with the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN). Don't hesitate to ask the educational department for more information!
