Originally from Australia, it has adapted very well to European climates.

It feeds on seeds and grass and, sometimes, cultivated cereals. The female lays 4 to 6 eggs in a nest in the hollow of a tree or a post. It incubates between 17 and 19 days and the longevity varies from 5 to 20 years depending on the breed. Budgies have been bred since 1850 and there are a multitude of different varieties. The feathers can be white, blue, yellow, green, purple, more or less long, with or without crest, etc. It is probably the most common parrot in the world as a pet and the second bird behind the canary.
