Originally from Australia, this bird is widespread throughout the world.

Breeders have obtained different varieties with different plumages in color and size. The female has yellow streaks under the tail and the orange spots on her head are less dark. She lays between 4 and 7 eggs which she incubates with the male for 16 to 22 days. Sociable, these birds live in groups and express themselves in particular thanks to their puff on the head. If it is erect, it can mean astonishment, surprise, curiosity or fear. They feed on seeds and cereals and often coexist with budgies.
